I just thought i'd share with you some highlights of a great weekend out on the MTB. Hope you dont fall asleep reading...

I met up with a few friends at the forest of Ae near Dumfries on Saturday morning. It was the first time any of us had ridden there and it was really great to be riding some new terrain. As with each of the 'stanes' in Scotland, this one had a character all of its own, and a very pleasant loop it is too. Maybe not as epic or as picturesque as some of the others but definately worth doing. The final section with some big drops, tables and balance beams was fairly challenging especially with the weather making it pretty slippy under tire. As always there were some wee gromits flinging themselves over the jumps twice as high as any of us! They have no fear and just seem to bounce when they hit the dirt! I admit that we did ride some 'closed for logging sections' bad bad i know, straight to hell....

Late staurday afternoon, the boys in the group did a cheeky lap of the red route at Mabie. We set off just before it got dark and charged around the forest under lights. I dont do much night riding, basically because i have been too skint to buy a decent light setup. I borrowed a set off one of the girls and it was amazing. Its like a whole new sport!

Beers and food saturday night led to redwine and whisky, so a little fuzzy sunday morning.

Sunday we all rode Dalbettie, and it was another great ride. One of those clear crisp Scottish mornings. I admit it though, i didn't ride the slab, just the qualifier on the way in. The slab was wet, covered in pine needles and i was on old tires. Thats my excuse and im sticking to it! I did see one guy on a Cove Stiffee ride the slab with barely checking his entry. Full respect to the man on the hardtail!

All in great stuff. If you weren't out riding this weekend, why the hell weren't you!

Sounds a great weekend.

Night riding is the dogs and as you said, totally different to day riding.

Me , my bro , and a mate spent a week in that area in June. Did all the staines, and Drumlanrig Castle . Its was bloody scorching hot all week, which made it hard work at times, but dam good fun.
The qaulifier looks more daunting than the slab IMO, one day i might be brave/good enough to have a go at it !
