The Morzine holiday is now booked biggrin, so now it's time to start thinking about getting my kit together.

For the last couple of seasons, I've been using some Brand-X knee/shin and elbow/forearm guards (I rarely do anything remotely scary in the UK, so they only ever get used on holiday).

The knee/shin guards especially are bloody uncomfortable when pedaling, and never stay put for more than 5 minutes.

Has anyone got any recommendations for some decent, comfy guards that won't be heading for my ankles half-way down Pleney?

Depends how far you want to go really. I had always used Dainese knee/shins which were fine for me, but others have complained before about them slipping round when crashing.

I've recently swapped them out for some 661 Kyle Straits & they are great. Much more comfortable.

Thats all I tend to wear, not because i'm a Sam Hill fan boy, I just hate wearing armour. i actually have a Dainese core shirt (I think its called) but I hate even having to wear that.

Your best bet is get to a decent shop & try a few different on & jump around like an idiot trying to move them about.

Just knee/shin and elbow/forearms are enough - they don't need to be massive-uber-extreme-hardcore jobbies 'cos I'm not a day-glo power ranger DH type, just enough to stop me from grinding a bit of skin off when I hit the deck.

The Brand-X kit has exactly the right level of protection for me, but is bloody uncomfortable to wear. I noticed the Kyle Strait guards when I was browsing CRC this morning, but I think I'd have to add some shin protection - my current guards have far too many chunks missing from the shins for me to feel safe going without yikes

i know you said you didnt want the power ranger/stormtrooper armour, but my Dainese shuttle suit has saved my skin many a time. i had a big crash last year wearing it and just bounced. Its surprisingly light and easy to wear and really boosts your confidence (not necessarily a good thing though laugh)
granted it does cost a fair old whack, but in my humble opinion, its worth every penny. Can be easily worn under shorts and t-shirt and the removable back plate is a god-send on hot days. Top notch piece of kit!

Dainese knee/shin guards I found far more comfy than ANYTHING else although the 2007 one's I own do have a webbing that can irritate if you don't get them on in a comfy position. Once sussed they're great, don't irritate when pedalling and stay put.

Elbows a different matter. 661 for these as others were plain awkward.

It's all down to you as these are so bodyshape dependent that no one person's recommendation will be right for you.

Dainese ones kill anything else! Love mine and have saved me a few times out in Manzine.

Never had a problem with them slipping when i came off.

I also found the dainese stuff cheaper in Morzine than the ass-shattering prices we pay here! Maybe i was lucky smile
