been hesitating over a full suspension MTB for about a month now,to complement my hardtail Klein.

Anyway after much reading, viewing etc i settled on the Trek fuel EX8...£1600.
thing is the next model down..EX7 was £1400 but is now £1200 in most shops(end of year offer by trek i think).
So now im thinking £400 is a big saving..could use it later for upgrades etc.
what do you guys think? anybody got these models?
mike
one other thing...Felt Compulsion 1...£2500...available for £1700..but weighs 30lb??? good bits on it though.

what is the spec difference? is it worth £400?
the fuel is a fantastic bike all round so i'm sure you'll enjoy it what ever!

If you do go for the Felt, budget for a bottle of threadlock as well, and then go round and coat all the bolts on the rear suspension. If you don't they WILL come undone, and usually at a really in-opportune moment.

better fork on the ex8.. fox vs a wanky RS Recon. It wll likely be better balanced with Fox in both front and rear ends.

also wheels are better spec on the EX8, unless you want to go full DH mode then there is no need to ride on heavy burly wheels.

My thing is to go with best spec frame, fork and wheels.. everything else can be upgraded cheaply later, forks re expensive and a good wheelset can likely cost as much as the frame and manufacturers are speccing crap wheelsets on upmarket models to get below price range budgets. (ie swanky XTR rear derailleurs and cheap CrossRides to offset cost)

I have ridden the treks, EX7 and EX8 - I was very surprised that I didnt like them (I so wanted too). There was no "passion" in them. They had no "feel". They were sharp and accurate, suspension had difficulty with small bumps.
For £1400 you can get a great Gary Fisher. Even at the £1400 quid mark these are a great ride, well specked and VERY light. The frame is first rate and will handle upgrades when you get round to it.
