Retro Road Bike (Price Help)

My Dads partner is wanting to sell her old Peugeot Ltd Edition Racing Bike from the 80's. Its in stunning condition and was very desirable at the time. It was up on ebay and got no real intrest at all so it has remained un-sold!

Where would I be best off advertising such a bike?

What sort of guide price should I realistically be looking at at?

Hand built frame from the classic 1980’s era when Peugeot were recognised as one of the top bike manufacturers. This bike has seen little use and is perfect for a collector or enthusiast!

The only downside is that the tyres will probably need changing and the bike serviced simply due to the degradation of rubber and lubricants over the years. The bike has been dry stored in the garage and has not been used in over 15 years now. The local bike shop commented on how little wear the drive train has.

Please note that this bike does have a couple small marks on it, this is due to it used a few times and are unavoidable. There are no major marks but it’s not a brand new show room bike. I am trying to be as honest as possible with you guys! (The bike does have dust on it in the pictures, don’t confuse that with rust!)


Please note that my knowledge of road bikes, esp from this era is lacking! I have written this listing based on the recommendation of my local bike shop who have advised me that due to the quality of this bike I should be able to get £200 from the right person. Beacuse of this I have set a reserve of £100. So bid now to have a chance at a real bargain! Best bet is to try Retrobike.com or advertise it in Cycling Plus or one of the other Roadie mags.

You're right that the right person will pay a good price for a bike like that. If you are advertising it again I would say that the tyres and chain will need replacing and the bike checked over prior to use as it has been dry stored for 15-years.

You would really have to find the right person to buy the bike, I'm afraid as a Peugeot it's just not that desirable. Retro bikes are cool and "in" (I've got one) but if people are buying retro they are usually after something Italian, or perhaps from a traditional small scale English builder, they like Campag or period Shimano kit or singlespeeds. And they are worth what someone wants to pay, no more. In fact, my mate was just given a similar Peugeot bike FOC...

You could have another go at selling it but make it look a bit better...give it a serious polish, get rid of that cruddie, pump and reflectors, put a road saddle on, get the seat up a bit and the bars down. At the moment it kinda looks like a roadbike that someone has made into a bit of a commuter...
