Can anyone refer me to a "how to" guide for disc and caliper adjustment please (cable setup). My rear disc is dragging a touch and I need to centre it up.

It very much depends on the make of brake and caliper?

My Avids are just a case of loosing off the caliper mount, then simply pulling the lever to align the pads to the disc.

I think the Hopes are a complete faff however!

Your best bet is posting up the make smile

The Hayes Nine isn't a cable calliper it's a hydraulic one. Is this related to your other problem with the brake not working?

One of latest edition of the mags has a general service guide on how to align callipers and rotor's. I think it is MBR but I might be wrong on that.

Interesting....bike shop told me it was a sealed cable. However, just looked at it more closely and you're right. They work fine, not sure if you've got my post confused with someone else's? Either way, it's the alignment that's the issue. I'll try and search out that mag, thanks for the reference.

Sorry, getting posts confused. What the man in the shop probably meant was that it has a sealed 'hose' rather than a cable. If you're talking about hydraulic brakes it's best to use the term hose rather than cable to save confusion.

Alignment is vey straight forward to do. Try Hayes website first and download the brake manual.

Moose.

Hayes are a piece of piss to adjust. Loosen off the two bolts holding the caliper body to the frame so the caliper can float side to side on the disc. Then, whilst squeezing the brake lever, re-tighten the two bolts. The caliper should then be centered smile
