Disc Brake Probs

My rear brake is very poor (Hayes Sole Hydraulic) it can't even stop the bike with 4 fingers.

I've gave the disc a blast with brake cleaner and even taken the pads out and refaced them.

Its still terrible, could the pads be contaminated?

Have you had them bled recently?

Given a bit of time the fluid goes to pooop, specially if your doing allot of riding in the wet/mud or the bikes been standing for long periods.

There is a solid feel to the brakes and no pumping is required to get a good feel, they don't feel any different to when they were new?

Try baking the pads in the oven - that sometimes gets rid of any excess oil.....I did that once.

Failing that new pads?

I suppose I could swap the pads from the front to see what happens?

lol so am I - I managed to get chain oil over my pads once, hence the "oven baked" pads

They weren't bad afterwards!

Are the pistons moving?

My default sequence would be new pads, thorough clean of the rotor. If it still doesn't work bleed the brakes. If that doesn't work then the calliper might have seized - rebuild or replace.
