I've been commuting to work on a knackered old mountain bike and got tired of being passed by guys on road bikes so took the plunge. I know it probably isn't the greatest bike but to lock up in central London I didn't want to spend anymore. The lock I bought weights more than the bike!

I can't believe how much more freely it rolls on the road! Looking forward to the cycle to work this week.

I'd advise anyone thinking about getting a road bike to do so!

I've got two....both very good bikes one's a tt bike and the other just road, The road bike is very comfortable regardless of its race geo and the tt bike is just fast purposeful and works very well!!

Top brand!

Nice one! I'm currently commuting on a nice, but old-ish Peugeot Altitude I bought from a guy at work (£150 for ultegra everything and carbon forks - with shoes too!). It does feel a lot more twitchy than my converted single speed MTB with slicks, but being able to cruise at a steady 21/22 mph helps you keep up with traffic around town.

I still cannot even comprehend how those Tour de France chappies can hit 60-70kmh on the flat towards the end of a stage. Absolute legends....

Edit - to add - if you leave your lock locked up at your work destination it means you don't have to carry the dead weight everywhere with you. saves carrying the extra few kgs.
