I am in the process of looking at bikes, and have been show this at my local 'proper' bike shop.

http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-GB/bikes/road/139...

I noticed that Giant are the supplier to the olympic team this year, but was wondering whether anybody had any experiences; good or bad?

Cheers

I had an OCR2, predecessor to the SCR2; very good frame for both racing and general road riding/training.

Try to find an SCR2 if you can - Tiagra kit is a big step up from Sora.

They had SCR2s in the shop also, quickly could you explain what you mean by "Tiagra kit is a big step up from Sora." please?

Thanks

Once you get away from the really cheap 'n' cheerful stuff, Shimano groupsets - gears, chainset, shifters etc - come in a variety of ranges of increasing quality from 'Sora' to 'Tiagra' to '105' to 'Ultegra' and finally 'Dura-Ace'.

A complete bike's worth of Sora kit would cost around £150, whereas Dura-Ace would be £900; the steps between the groupsets aren't always dramatic, but going from Sora to Tiagra gets you much better shifting quality, 9-speed rather than 8-speed, significantly more durable components and shifters you can use comfortably while riding on the drops; all the groupsets use sideways movement of the brake levers to shift one way, but Sora has an awkward thumb-catch to shift the other way, while Tiagra - and all the other groupsets - use a second lever located directly behind the brake lever.

I'm a Giant dealer, i'm also a Trek dealer and a few other brands.Giant is probably the biggest bang for your buck mass produced bike, like for like, on quality.I ride mainly Trek smile
Giant has good ethics, good manufacturing and a pretty good product range imo.Its hard to go wrong. They also make bikes in Asia for seven(what i saw) other companies.Lifetime warrenty on the frames is a good indication of something, not sure what, but you pay for what you get.The margins are so small on bike manufacture now that its who has the most slick production line that makes a tiny bit more than the next brand ,unless your talking Italian, they charge what they want smile

Great distributor service here in Oz. My XTC frame was showing signs of corrosion after 2 and a half years, so exchanged for a new one, no bother. Mrs PB has a OCR, which was great value too. Really struggle to find bikes that are as good value in terms of kit and frame quality, and generally recommended if you've no particular need and the bike fits you.

Though my other bike is a Yeti biggrin

As above I'm a giant dealer too, along with kona and gt, I ride/race giant road bikes, like he said they are best value and you end up with alot of bike for the money. They lack soul a little but work very well, go for it!

I bought it, and love it. It's quick, it looks well made and is nice to ride.
