Opinions on Commencal and the Meta 666
Discussion
The 666 is a perfect Megavalanche / Freeride bike.
Therefore it depends on what you want out of the bike.
Basically with burlier setup and slightly lazier angles, its a bike more suited to down than up.
I've not ridden one, however, and can't really vouch for then. What I can say is that the Commencal Contact System is one of the best suspension systems out there, and seems to work really well and reliably.
If they're being reduced they're well worth a look.
I've the Meta 5.5 and that descends blody well for an agressive XC full susser. The Mini-DH (now sold) was a demon shorter travel DH bike.
I have both the Meta and Supreme for sale at present because I've decided to move to the Supreme DH and a hardtail VIP Supernormal

cheers bud!
I like burly so the 666 sounds good. The Craftworks i have at the min is seriously burly but a bit too heavy... plus its broken hence why I'm tempted by the 666.
i fancy doing the Mega in a year or two, so i think the Meta might be a wise choice! that said, how much do you want for your Meta?

Its a popular bike, however I saw more Meta 5.5/6 frames than 666's
Most ran them with single/dual ring with bash guard and 20mm forks.
The Meta can be converted to 12m bolt through as well (which I did).
They descend well - the actual race usually takes an easier course than the qualifier, and so thats why me and loads of others ran DH'y bikes for the quali and then ligher Meta style bikes for the race.
Only this year it pissed down, and we had to race the quali. I seriously worried whether the Meta would cope with the huge boulder/rock fields, but I needn't have worried - it coped incredibly well...
Not ridden a 666 but those who do rate it highly. Tis a good looking bike too.
If i was in the market at the moment and was looking for something at the burly-but-can-still-be-peddaled-about-kind-of-but-its-worth-it-you-know end of the market then would probably take a long hard look at one of these.
Let us know what you do choose!

Exactly the kind of bike i like! I'm not a downhiller, nor am I an Xc whippet but I like the fact that in 3 years of riding, my Craftworks has taken a serious pounding (including a crash which resulted in surgery to me!) and not skipped a beat. Its only parts availability that has lead me to the meta.If i was in the market at the moment and was looking for something at the burly-but-can-still-be-peddaled-about-kind-of-but-its-worth-it-you-know end of the market then would probably take a long hard look at one of these.

Just found an old email when I was asking a mate what he thought to the 666. He's got a Meta4 (purely for XC use) and has ridden both the 5 and 6.
"Much like a meta 5!!!! I cant really tell the difference other than it is slightly softer!"
It all depends on setup and ride really. If you're the type of rider who would go to CwmCarn and ride the proper Downhill track, then cycle up the XC loop for another go... go for the 666. If you would continue and do a full lap of the XC course, but be nailing the downhill sections, go for the 5.
The 5 will feel tighter and be better to pedal. The 6 will have that extra inch of travel, but more importantly it's quite a bit stronger due to extra welding, braces etc.
Can vouch for Neil's Meta5 being in good nick
