I'm going to replace my forks soon (no, really this time!) as the existing ones are starting to feel less than plush.

The question is - will brand new forks with just a couple of miles under them feel better than the outgoing set?

I'm off to Wales for a few days in a fortnight or so and I'm debating whether or not it's worth sticking the new forks on beforehand.

It depends on what forks you have and what you are changing to. If your old ones are Rockshox Indy Cs and your new ones are some Fox 36 floats then it' definately worth it.

Forks do take a while to bed in, my 2005 Z1s feel better now than they have ever done (no service as yet)

If i were you i'd change before the trip, as it will bed them in and give you a good idea of what they are like, what are you getting?

Definately take a while to bed in, and also worth whipping them apart, just to check the oil levels as well...

The current forks are Manitou Black Comps (circa 2003) and the new ones will probably be Rockshox Rebas or Magura Menjas.

If I got them at the beginning of next week I'd have just under a fortnight (maybe 4 or 5 fairly gentle local rides) to bed them in before I go off to Wales.

I'd get them before you go.

The new forks will be fine straight out of the box (after you've set them up for your weight etc), they just won't be quite as plush as they could be. First thing I did when I got my RS Revelations was take them on a trip to Afan and Brechfa smile

Cool. I've just ordered a (pair of?) Reba SLs from Merlin Cycles. £229 for the disc-specific model! smile

Hopefully they should be here tomorrow or failing that early next week, on by the weekend and with a few miles on them in time for Afan and Cwmcarn on the 13th/14th.
