I got a kona stinky 05. My riding style is freeride.
the chain on up front rings keep jumping between 2 rings (small ones and large ones),my gears are adjusted correctly.

I seen those chain devices. small wheels that sit on chain ring.
Do those need be single ring to work with chain devices? or can i buy one that work with 2 speed ring?

do they really work?

You can buy a dual ring chain device. E13 do one called the DRS. Have a look for other makes out there.

I can't comment if the dual ring ones work, however, in my experience of running a few different single ring chain devices, I have never dropped a chain once smile

Am I missing something? If your chain keeps jumping there is a reason, and you should fix the problem rather than the symptom.

The first thing to check is that your derailleur is correctly adjusted, if as you say it is then I suspect you have a problem with worn teeth. Have you replaced your chain recently?

Downhill + bumpy track + high speed = chain jumping around.

Try telling that to a DH biker.

If he is doing some rough stuff then even a perfectly set up gear system will keep the chain on.

I've been running an E13 DRS for a couple of years. Works really well, don't think I've ever dropped the chain. Expensive for a few bits of plastic though.

I'm also running a Heim triple chainguide on another bike. E13 just bought the design after failing to get their triple guide working well enough to market. The Heim works OK, still occasionally drops the chain and also seems impossible to set up without getting noisy pedalling in most gears in the granny ring.

i own an orange patriot used as a DH bike, im also a cycles mechanic, and my chain still jumps off. saying 'fixing the symptom blah blah blah' doesnt help.

unfortunately two ring devices aint so hot. yes only work when in the top rin, and usually have a slider at top and roller at the bottom, which doesnt guide the cain onto the ring properly. my suggestion is this. remove the small ring, and just have a single ring up front, then play around with either the spacing of your BB if its hollowtech, or diff bb lengths if its square/isis.

you want the chain perfectly straight when in 5th with both 8 and 9 speed. that should suualy keep droppage down to a minimum, if that doent wotk, then you will need a chain device, if you have a bash guard i reccomend purchasing a back plate and two rollers from CRC (MRP ones if possible) as this comes to about 35-40 quid, and youve just bought yourself a very good piece of kit.

thats my advice anyway, you dont have to follow it, but i am trained to know what im talking about.
