XT or X9?

Buying a P7 with the choice of either rear mech. Ive only ever used Shimano and would like to hear from people who made the swap to Sram. Should i?

Had an Orange delivered recently and the first thing I did was upgrade from Sram to Shimano

I have used Sram, but prefer the feel of Shimano, it's a personal choice really, operationally there similar it's down to what you prefer or what you have standardised on across your bikes.

I run Shimano on other bikes and my spares are Shimano so it's an easy choice for me.

I assume you understand that the choice is XT Mech/Shimano Shifter or X9 Mech/SRAM Shifter ?

I tried SRAM and hated it in comparison to XT.

Tried SRAM a second time and loved it. You have to get used to the SRAM push/push gearshift before you can judge it. Going back to Shimano felt massively wrong.

I have X0/X9 on one bike, and a shimano shifter/SRAM shifter mix on my commuter sg. I view SRAM as a massive upgrade on Shimano, but it's going to be a personal thing, due to the shift philosophy.

Personally i perfere sram. I had shimano on my bike the bought a new bike with sram on and loved it and i have never looked back. I dont know how shimano feel these days as i have used sram for the last 3+ years now but i are not in any rush to change from sram. Thats just my prefrence.

Thanks guys. Do Sram shifters work differently to Shimano? What i mean is there two levers on each like rapid fire+?

There are 2 levers, but you operate both by pushing with your thumb, as oposed to Shimano, where you use thumb and forefinger to push/pull.

Are the shimano ones as big as the SRAM ones?

both Shimano and Sram offer 'trigger' shifters i.e. two buttons via thumb as opposed to push and pull.

XT.

M770 XT is pretty much all you could ever want from a groupset - it has 99.9% the performance of XTR at a much more attainable price. I wouldnt run anything else.

SRAM rear mechs are much better IMO. The shifting feels slightly different though, SRAM is more clunky and Shimano more refined.

Whilst I'm a big fan of SRAM, I do still have XT on the XC bike - if I had the choice of either I'd go for SRAM.
