Can you convert a 20mm axle front wheel to q/r?

Another Q for you all!

I have my eye on some XT all mountain wheels.

Currently my Gt Force has a q/r front a rear hub setup but eventually (read, not for some time!) I want to change to a 20mm front fork so I want a wheelset that can accomodate this.

The XT wheelset is 20mm only at the front so my question is, is there any universal way of converting it to q/r for use until the fork upgrade? Shimano don't offer a conversion kit.

I had the same issue with my DT wheels. You should be able to buy some cups which screw on, converting them to QR.

I don't think you can convert the XT hubs.

Hope Pro II's are what you want. You can swap between QR, 15mm bolt through and 20mm bolt through. Built up with a Mavic 521 rim would make a great Trail / AM wheelset.

The reason I want to go with the XT's is the reviews they've had the key point being massive strength and ust ready but also the main thing is a compelte new wheelset can be had for less than £200 which is a massive bargain.

I have access to a mill and lathe at home here.

Do you reckon I'd be able to squeaze some adaptor spacers either side of the hub but within the q/r dropouts?

I was thinking of turning the spacers up with a drilled centre so they can screw onto a std q/r steel axle thru which I could pass a q/r or a solid 10mm axle and use m10 nuts for the bmx effect?

I think I'm right in saying that a 20mm hub is 10mm narrower than a q/r hub.

Any mtb rim can be run tubeless, it doesn't have to have a UST rim. Numerous methods of sealing the rims are available from shop bought to home bodge.

In a quick and slightly related question, have the Pro II hubs changed at all over the past couple of years or is the ability to be converted a new thing?

I've a pair of hubs from an '07 model year bike which i'd like to use with the new Fox 15mm through-axle quick release forks (specifically the '09 32 Vanilla RLC). Can they be converted? They're currently 9mm QR hubs.

If the hub is a Pro II model all you need to do is buy the converter kit (a couple of flat springs and some cups), pull out the 9mm cups (they come out by hand), pop on the new cups and hold inplace with the flat spring.

IIRC the kit cost £15. My oldest Pro II front hub is an '07 model and I converted it 20mm in about 30-seconds.
