Clip-in pedals with normal shoes
Discussion
I had the same problem. When I'm nipping across town or short journeys, I can wear trainers. When I'm off over the Downs, I can wear biking

Ah, sorry. Just re-read your post and it seems you want to use them only once for getting back home. As per #2, it's not advisable, you'll struggle.
Still, my pedals are a great compromise if you need the flexibility.

some shops have temporary clip in plastic pedals that attach to the clipless pedals and provide a platform to ride with normal shoes.
Might be worth checking with them before you go
Yeah i'll keep an eye out for those, one more question, don't wanna be flooding the forum with clueless questions, is it possible to walk in something like these http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/Cycle/7/dhb_R1_Road_Shoe... (or any stiff soled cycling shoes) with the cleats in, I don't mean walking around the city for a day, just walking in and out of shops etc.Might be worth checking with them before you go

I use Egg beater pedals.
So Crank Brother's Mallets do the trick for me. http://media.rei.com/media/658172.jpg
Just road the South Downs way on them. Easy times and no problems what so ever.
I'm guessing from another look at the thread though that you are going the SPD route?

There's a set of Look Keo pedals included, but no cleats, so i'll just be using my toe clips from my current bike until I get a pair of shoes/cleats.
I cycled 5 miles back home from the shop on Look Keos - the back on them is reasonably flat. Mind you, it's not comfortable and I wouldn't have wanted to go further than that
Also, from experience, the Look cleats are impossible to walk further than 10 yards in - extremely slippery on anything other than gravel.
Appreciate the responses guys, guy called me earlier, he's sold the bike to someone else, despite him telling me he'd hold it until monday, however, found the same bike, for quite a bit cheaper, only comes with toe clips though, so I get to choose which pedal/cleat option, so which do you guys recommend as far as walkability in normal conditions?
