Hi,

Do I need a seperate policy to insure my mountain bike? I've just moved from London, and am paranoid!

Home policies will usually insure bikes within the house but not whilst out so if it's out and about a lot and left wihout you there then it's probably worth getting. I don't bother because all my cycling is done for leisure use and therefore I don't leave it alone when I'm out with it, and the rest of the time, it's tucked up in it's bag in my flat!

House insurance usually does insure a bike when it's locked up but out of the house. Just check the terms and conditions of your policy, you may have to pay an extra £15 a year or so and make sure you keep your receipt!

Also depends on how mcu hyour bike is worth, usually over 1-1.5k needs declaring separately on the policy.

CTC give third party as part of the subs.

House insurance is good for fully comp, but needs checking. An stand alone, all-embracing total package is expensive.

You need to ensure a "New for Old" (or "Like for Like") clause is in place. Many insurance companies devalue a bike over three years old. Make sure clothing and accessories are covered, including shoes.

10pc premiums on value of items insured are not uncommon.
