Can anyone recommend a good turbo trainer suitable for use with a mountain bike?

If you don't have a spare back wheel and don't want to be messing around with changing back tyres every time you use itto put a slick on, you're best off going for a rim drive one, Minoura make one called the RDA, about £180.

cheers, Will.

I'm in the lucky position of having a Cannondale Jekyll as a spare bike, so I'll be using that with the trainer. Good advice re. the slick tyre smile .

Just been speaking to my local bike shop & they're getting their winter stock of trainers ( elite ) in this week. I'm going to pop down & see which will be best for me eg magnetic , fluid etc

I bought the Elite a year or so ago. It's extremely well made, plain black, with decent cast alloy heat sink, remote level adjustment and soft roller. I also bought a new shimano black MTB wheel for it, with appropriate slick tyre. So all I had to do was quick release the bikes usual rear wheel and pop on the clean slick for use indoors. Worked very well, although I only used mine for a few weeks and returned to outdoor riding. Both for sale if anyone is interested, as new 75 the pair collected from CM2.

I bought a Kurt Kinetic fluid trainer last year. After a bit of research it appeared to be the best at the price.

I have to be honest and say that I have Gucci lights and free gym usage through work so have hardly used it. Also I spend my weeks in a top floor flat and cannot be arsed to lug my bike up / down.

I do not regret buying the trainer as I wanted to try one but I would sell it given a sensible offer. PM me if interested...

I am bound to say this but a second hand one is a good idea because you can probably sell it for the purchase cost if you, like I have, decide that it is not for you. I bought it new, together with a continental turbo trainer tyre (quieter) so stand to lose a fair chunk.
