I have a 2004 CANNONDALE Jekyll 900 that is sort of surplus to requirments. I'm thinking of selling it & using the money to buy a road bike

Anyone got any idea how much I might be able to get for my Cannondale?

Good points :

2004 Jekyll with Lefty Max
Hope M4's

bad points :

Seat post well & truly stuck !!
Rear brake a bit sticky

You can sort the rear brake easily enough but the seat post might be a problem.

You'll get more money breaking the bike and selling the parts individually - although that doesn't include your time and effort in doing the extra work.

STW has a classifieds section that would be worth a punt before the enevitable e-Bay auction.

As for value - it's hard to price bikes. Frames have moved on in the last five years - that doesn't mean the 'Dale is pants. I got nearly £200 for my '99 S-Works FSR frame and shock but only £70 for an '04 Stiffee frame. It's the wrong time of year to try and sell an old bike too. With the '09 models coming out and the '08 models heavily discounted people are buying new.

+1

good sound advice,

second hand values are a hard thing for bikes, worth what people are prepared to pay, ebay for parts tend to be the best way sadly.

Good luck with the sale.

I had one of these from new - sold it a year later for £750 yikes , it took a while too and that was with plenty of advertising.

I think you'd get around £400 if it's in decent nick and you can un-seize the post, that'll put a lot of people off.

iirc a good way to unstick a seat post is to take out the BB and pour oil or bicarb water mix down the seat tube.

I think I'll need to try & unseize the seat post .... luckilly on a Jekyll the bottom of the seat post is 'open'

Still not sure wether to sell, but I only use the 'dale for towing my eldest daughter 'tow along' bike & then on a turbo trainer .... which seems a waste of a good mountain bike & a road bike might be a better solution. I have a Yeti which I spend nearly all my saddle time on
