I picked up a Light And Motion Solo for £50 (Well, actually it cost a lot less, but thats with Staff pricing) in our sale a few weeks ago, so there are off-road worth lights out there for the money.
No, its not as bright as a mega LED/ HID job. But just over 2 Hours battery life is not bad for the money, and the light is considerably brighter than your typical cheap flashy clip on LED jobs.
Comes with Helmet mount too, which is neat. Perfectly usable off-road, much fun
Keep your eye on the internet retailers for good deals.

Was in exactly the same position 2 weeks ago. After extensive research, the best deal are these (IMHO), Cateye Triple Shot http://www.cateye.com/en/product_detail/318. I bought them from Hargroves Cycles who I believe have shops all over the country. They were £100, down from £200, and they had loads, so I bet if you call now you could still get them.

Hi All,
on a similair vein, i am considering upgrading my front light to something a bit brighter than my current Cateye (cost about £30).
Looking to spend £100 to £150, and need a light suitable for night time rides on dark country roads, bridleways and towpaths - i often get waylaid in a pub on my way back from the Woods! Plus it needs to clamp nicely to oversize bars, where bar space is limited due to a plethora of other gadgets strapped on there such as computer, remote for lock switch etc. The clamp on my Cateye is a nightmare to fit next to the gadgets and brake/gear cables.
Whats the best one around at the moment? And is it true the number of Lumens is the best thing to gauge light performance?
regards
greg

The Hope clamp is excellent for your needs as well - it's metal for a start and can sit right next to the stem, the offset placing the light head over the stem. Lots of room left for other gizmos.
Personally I have the Hope Vision HID which is a little bit brighter than the Vision 2 LED but more expensive. If you're feeling flush, the Vision 4 LED looks like a belter.

Fantastic rear light. Just got it the other day and extremely bright, has survived Aberdeen rain so is certainly waterproof and also has the advantages of the light orange lights on the side as added visibility.
I have a Cannondale on the front and it's not actually very good, quick release mechanism is very poor and difficult to not get shaken around when going over bumps. Very bright though.

I've just ordered a Superflash. They look pretty good for £12 at Chain Reaction.

I currently run a Nexus dynohub and a B&M Topal, but I'm just waiting to find out how much the new B&M IQ Cyo is going to be before I preorder.

Lost my rear light this week - the Heath Robinson-style bracket I'd bodged up to hang it on the back of the child seat let go Fantastic rear light. Just got it the other day and extremely bright

So, I ordered a Mars-4 to replace it.
Have to agree with you - it's a great rear light; really really bright.
Bonus is the selection of mounting options that come with it; there's one that allows me to bolt it directly onto the child seat so hopefully that's the last time I'll lose a light!
Rear lights have to be two of these (imo) - last for ages, muliple fixing and not too bright.

I actually run three on my commuter bike, but can put one on the seatpost of any mtb and clip another to the Camelbak for a night mtb ride.

I ordered one of these and a smart 1/2 watt rear led from tredz on tuesday. Cheapest I could find. Unfortunately they've e-mailed me to say they're out of stock so it'll be next week now, but I'm not in a hurry for them. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?Mod...
