Ever since I bought my ASX I've never really ridden much of what it was built up for (no sick pay any more so too much risk!)

Time has come to get a hard tail again I think so I'm after some ideas on what to buy.

Budget goes to around £1k sat £1200/1300 max I'd also like something with a long top tube (around 23.5" on an 18" frame) as I like a shorter stem. Call me a bike we, but I want something a bit 'different' too.

Currently looking at the Cube Reaction XT, £1299 http://www.cyclex.co.uk/product/cube_bikes-cx/cube...

I looked at building up a steel HT but it ended up at the same sort of money if not more.

Any ideas?

Thats quite a nice looking bike but the graphics are a bit OTT for my liking!

On One Scandal or potentially an On One Ti 456. They've got long top tubes, not run of the mill and also handle well.

The black wasn't too bad. I quite liked the red and white though! paperbag

The Scandal comes in at similar money but for a lot lower spec, and the 456 ti is £1200 for the frame alone!

Lot lower spec? I've just been through and specced one up and the price is £150 less, albeit with Rock Shox Revs and not Reba Race's.

The Cube is a very racey looking bike, in terms of angles and set up. It does look good, but are you looking for a race bike or something else that's more ride anywhere?

Slight change of plan... I've just bought a year old Cotic Soda frame to build up instead!

I wanted something that is very clearly "XC" in its geometry but comfortable enough to ride all day. Looking at the angles on the Soda it should fit the bill.

Lots of people love the Soda, so think you've made a wise choice. Best of luck with the build.
