So I got back in to cycling earlier this year, just in time for spring/summer. While it hasnt been the warmest summer I have always ridden in shorts and been warm enough. We were going to go to Cannock yesterday but after sticking my head outside the front door I just couldnt face it as I dont have any suitable long trousers for MTBing in so know I would have been cold.
So here is the question, as I am trying to buy some I cant decide on some fleecey lycra or some endura "trail pants".

What do you guys use - lycra or trouser?

I have always ridden MTB in my youth, never road and so am struggling to bring myself to buy lycra. Which is best?

3/4s?

I have some nice dhb 3/4 bib shorts which are great for this time of year. I use them on road as-is, or under baggies for MTB. Lots of people offer baggy 3/4 shorts which work really well, although most have regular length liners which won't keep your knees so warm.

Have got some full-length fleece tight things, but they're really too hot once you get going unless it's well below freezing.

I have long black 'tights' ie cycling trousers in lycra with a chamois pad.
I then use some Gore overshorts. KEep me warm and dry.
