A mate's after a replacement frame for his Stumpjumper FSR frame, He wants around 100-120mm travel, as light as possible and 'different' if possible, for around a £700-£1000.

He doesnt like Giants and is considering another spesh. I've suggested a Meta 4, a Scott Genius, or a SC superlight if he can get one cheap enough.

Any suggestions? and does anyone know of any deals going at the minute?

Slightly over budget, but here's an option- Cove: http://www.tredz.co.uk/.Cove-Hustler-XC-2008-Frame...

A bit cheaper, Meta 5: http://merlincycles.co.uk/?fn=product&productI...

And to keep everyone happy biggrin , Orange: http://www.tritoncycles.co.uk/products.php?plid=m4...

Pity he doesnt like Giants, because Giant make EXCELLENT frames. From Experience, they have the best suspension setup going at the moment, that includes the contact system and VPP.

The problem they have is their not cool.

Giant are definately worth a look: New Anthem X just got a great review in MBR (10 out of 10: 'marathon' bike group test - 100mm f&r). Don't think the frame would take a 120mm fork though without effecting adversely the handling (assuming that is the fork your mate has from the FSR).

I had an older Anthem (90mm), and it was an electric ride. Frame was just under £900 from recollection.

The Trance X is the one he should get to take the kit off his Stumpy. I'm rather confident in saying that it will be lighter than the Stumpy, and I'm certain that it rides better.

ETA - cheap too!

For that money you are into Carbon or Ti frames. Cove Hummer, Cotic Soda, Cube Elite HPC?

Cheers for the replies, I mentioned the Giant to him, he simply doesn't like them. I have the same dislike of Marins, they may be good but I'd never want one!

I've found him a Cannondale Rush Carbon at £999, there's a Spesh S-works Epic on Gumtree at £1600 (2nd hand) and he also likes the SC Superlight. Also, theres a Yeti AS-R on Singletrack which looks good.

I'll see what he decides!

In that case, he should consider the Super 4. theres no Meta 4 anymore, and i wasnt a huge fan of it - it weighed nearly the same as a Meta 5.

The New super 4 however, is veeeerry nice, totally re-designed, much lighter, very sexy looking. Lad at work has one of our demo bikes at the moment, and i've had a quick spin, it feels good. Not sure if theres many reviews out yet, but the bikes are available now and the frames shold be about soon I presume.
