Thinking of getting one of these under the Cycle to work scheme.

Anybody got one? How light are they?

I've got one - a 2007 model I bought as a commuter. I previously had a Specialized Stumpjumper (converted to road-style tyres) and then a Trek 6066 (my first hybrid). I also tried a Cannondale Bad Boy and a Genesis Day 3 (now replaced by the new Flight series I think) when buying it - those are the bikes I am therefore comparing it to.

It's much lighter than most of the other bikes, although the Ridgeback was very similar - it's more akin to a road bike than a mountain bike. The weight was one of the reasons I bought it along with the ride which I found very smooth and responsive. The use of carbon (chain stays, stem, forks) certainly seems to help. I found a massive speed difference between it and my previous bikes - it's very quick indeed!

I found it fairly well priced, in this regard the Ridgeback and Cannondale seemed expensive. However, I ended up buying a previous model year in the sales (a £200 saving) rather than new.

Overall I really like it. If I was still commuting (which I don't any more, sadly) I might have thought more about whether I needed disc brakes (which both the Ridgeback and Cannondale have) - but the weight trade-off would probably have won out regardless.

Hope that helps a little. My advice is go and try one along with the competition (the Ridgeback in particular) because as I am sure you know, geometery and feel and are all when buying something that you are going to be riding day in, day out.
