My mate has challenged me to go down to his place in Surrey and get some cycling done, but alas I have no cold weather gear at all, any recommendations on where to get it and some budget makes please?

I got myself some arm/leg warmers from Wiggle's own brand DHB, arm warmers are great, haven't used the leg warmers, probably won't either.

It depend if it's cycling on or off road. Off road is quite easy, light waterproof jack and trousers, although I always wear baggy shorts and lyrcra cycling short underneath whatever the weather. Thermal layers underneath the waterproofs. Sunglasses and camelback for > 10 miles.

Road guys wear those full body lycra suits. You would never get me in one of those.

I'm sure the more serious riders out there can give better advice but I use (for off-road)DHB full length bib tights with padded seat, Lycra Bikesters over the top (so 2 layers for the legs), waterproof socks, ordinary T-shirt and long-sleeved T-shirt plus windproof jacket on top. Perhaps more importantly are good gloves and a head covering in the current conditions.

Went out Boxing Day and the day after with this and kept as warm as toast.

If you haven't got time to get the real gear then just work on the principle of multiple thin layers.

Cheers guys budget is an issue, I was thinking of an altura waterproof jacket with a base layer underneath to start with, have got a pair of baggies. I have only got a pair of weight gloves though, but the distance will probably be about 10 miles, what do you reckon?

At the mo I wear a marino base layer ( i know your on a budget but how much would you pay when your on a moor freezing your t1ts off)then a fleece, then my raincoat is in my camelbak if it rains or as an extra layer. I'm still in baggies but use knee warmers , full length roubaix comes out when its REALLY cold. If its wet i use sealskins if not smartwool (marino again) socks.
Always carry a buff - dont laugh these things are really warm and can be pulled over mouth n nose on descents etc. also wear a skull cap but thats cos I look like Richard O'Brian ( apparently) . My gloves are Endura ones , can't remember the name but they are borderline TOO warm.

Just re-read the post and seen "Surrey" - in which case maybe just a tee , some shorts and some factor 20. biggrin
