Just wondering if anyone has taken out seperate insurance for the Cycles? and if so who with and what does it cover? I've seen some which cover accidental damage which could be good??

From memory I think my household insurance covers £500 for a bike..... I guess I could get this increased at a premium....

Thanks

Tom

I covered my bike on the house insurance, it added around a ten for the year as it is kept in a shed.

Well worth it, also covered it being locked up away from home.

I had my bikes covered with E and L last year, about £7.50-£10 per £1000 worth of bikes per month is about normal. Cyclesure is another good one, they will cover you for events too and even have breakdown cover!!

One thing to remember is that they will only pay out for things you have invoices for and not stuff you have bought secondhand or off ebay etc. I cancelled mine because for 2k plus worth of bikes I can only produce reciepts for a few components.

Mine are insured in the house but not outside, but seeing as I don't get off them when I go out, certainly don't leave them, then it's not really an issue at the moment hehe

Mine are insured with butterworth.
- About 10% of the value of the bike (£50ish) plus 50% off second bike (£50+25=75)
- Been with them two years, and this year i had my old (second) bike nicked of campus.
- Bit of a delay as i struggled to produce bike/lock proof of perchase and was in the middle of exams.
- However, all be it three months later, i got a check for £450 made out to my local bike shop who match evans prices (otherwise they give you evans voutchers)

Switched to M&S home insurance last year because (a) they were competitive with the best of the rest on price and (b) they include up to £4,000 worth of cycle insurance FOC as part of the deal.

I looked at insuring separately but couldn't beat the M&S deal.

Another vote for M&S, we've got five bikes and I couldn't get anywhere near M&S's quote with anyone - and that includes bike only policies. M&S's bike cover is just a part of their contents cover.

Also, iirc, their premium policy covers away from home as well.

+ 1 for M&S , we also got the premium package which includes foriegn travel etc. It almost sounds too good to be true , interested to hear of anyone who has actually (unfortunately) had to claim just to see how good they are.
