I'm replacing a Deore triple and just wondering if it would be a good idea to remove a few links to stop the chain thrashing about. Without a big ring, the rear mech can cope without so much chain, right?

And no, this is not a mad-cap weight saving ruse. hehe

dont see why not.
Just adjust length like you normally would. what is it?.. largest sproket, largest sproket + 2 links..or something?..

just remember to dial in limit screw on front derailleur as well

If you really want to do the job properly fit a short or medium length rear mech too.

Should save lots of weight then wink
