Hi All,

Haven't been away with the bikes for about 5 years and looking at heading over the Wales for a few days. Looking at Snowdonia to visit Coed-y-Brenin & Bewts-y-Coed, has anyone got any recommendations of where to stay (or avoid!) or any other areas to head to for good selection of trails & towns to wonder round?
Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks, Andy

vagabond is a pretty good bunkhouse, nice and clean, recently opened and does a good breakfast. they are well equipped for outdoor sports types with drying facilities and secure storage. it also has a bar and can do evening meals on request.

dont bother riding with snowdon, it will be too busy with walkers now. stick to the singletrack and bridleways. loads of info here: http://www.mbwales.com/

Great to know other PHers like it as well!

Absolutely brilliant place! thumbup

The Marin trail in Bewts y Coed is quite good smile

Shame that they shorted the Karrimore route at Coed Y Brenin, it's now known as the beast I think; it's good but not as rewarding as the old route frown

What used to be the Red Bull (now the Tarw I believe?) trail at Coed Y Brenin is very short by serious MTB standards, but great fun. Can't remeber which one of the longer routes is which now (it's been a while...)

Accomodation wise I've always used the Tyn Y Groes: http://www.tynygroes.com/

The Tarw & MBR trails at Coed Y Brenin are great fun, about 11ish miles long. I always stay at YHA Kings which is a 10 min drive away. Also have a look at Nant yr Arian, it's a bit further south & offers less of the technical rocky sections you get at Coed Y Brenin but probably more freeflowing singletrack.

CYB is very good...consider putting flats on for some of the proper rocky sections though!

However, be prepared to pay the price on some of the long (and pointless) fireroad bits. A bit of clever planning can miss some of these out, they are a PITA really.
