I wasn't aware of the prices of some of this range until recently;

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/SearchResults.a...

£30 to save 3.5 grams on a brake lever lid with some gold paint eek

Some of this stuff looks OTT in my opinion, the odd gold touch here and there is quite nice, making your bike look like you just rode out of H.Samuels just seems a bit naff.

I'm willing to be convinced otherwise smile

There are other cheaper, lighter (and better IMHO) components by third party manufacturers. Those prices are rofl

Garish tat IMHO. A decent wet fart will get more weight off the tyres than this stuff.

But have you seen that "Lightweight" branded stuff for road bikes? £800 for a rear mech FFS!!!eek And branding that looks like it's been done in Letraset too...

Never bought anything gold in my life, including jewellery. Must add weight?

I'm sure Neil's got some on order to go with his bar/stem/seatclamp combo hehe

It's a cashcow for Shimano. There are enough sponsored/wealthy riders who will do absolutely anything they can do save a few grams.

Personally think the gold is minging and if they made them in black or carbon then they'd sell a tonne more.

It's OK I guess. You won’t catch me paying out oodles of cash for a bit of gold paint, especially as I wouldn't ever waste money on XTR kit. That said I know the goldie lookin' chain they do looks good with the new saint stuff.

I am actually offended by the Lightweight stuff though. I'm certain it's just expensive for the sake of being exclusive. I can kind of see the point of a £3500 wheelset or £900 derailer, IF and only IF you're a front runner on the Tour and after days and days of racing you win or lose a race by a few fractions of a second. But it's the non-riding kit that sets off my wealthy gobste alarm. £150 for a jersey, £90 for a bloody wheel bag. FOURTY POUNDS STERLING for a pair of brake blocks! No mention of performance, but they DO have a pony little lightweight badge on them so you can let the others in your little road riding club just how small your penis is (but of course they already know because of the ridiculously tight lightweight shorts you're wearing).

I’m going lay down in a dark room for a bit now.

Just done a quick calc, it is roughly £10.30 per gram lost if you go for the full works. Surely a sheet of sandpaper is cheaper?

Or even better, clean your bike and coat it with bikrespray. Yeah the spray may add a gramm over all, but I think you could save more than 10g's by the water/mud not sticking to your bike.

If they had been released pre-price increases then it may not have seemed so bad. Shimano stuff has gone through the roof though so that's why they seem so ridiculous.
