At what age did you start to teach yours how to ride a bike?

And did you use stabilisers or just take the pedals off?

My boy is 2 and a half and pedals his trike round the house at a furious pace. Time to move it outdoors I think!

That brings back memories. Around 3 I guess but as they're both into their twenties now my memory is a little hazy. The older one broke one of the stabilisers so we took the other one off and left him to get on with it. He did. His younger brother on reaching more or less the same age borrowed his brothers unused bike and started riding down a grass slope at the back of our house. Realising that turning to the left was preferable to ending up in the brambles he soon learnt. Grass is alwys best as it doesn't hurt so much. Fond memories. They both do downhill racing now, how times have changed......

4 years old with Annie.

I just took the stabilisers off and off she went. I reckon my son Matthew might be a little quicker than that, he's just turned 3 in March and I reckon we'll be having his off later this summer.

I think those like-a-bikes are a really good idea as the child learns balance even earlier but I think the ground needs to be right, where you've got a nice undulating up and down so the kid doesn't need to use their legs too much.
