I went out biking with a friend of mine and he had this very cool gadget on his bike. A GPS data logger with maps, statistics and all sorts.

OK, this was a little extreme for my liking since it's also pretty bulky on the handlebars, and I already have a cycle computer which I use for my average speed and distance, however I've found you can buy data loggers you can attach do your bag so they're totally unobtrusive.

Has anyone got any experience of these?

There is one I like in particular but if anyone else has any suggestions, I might pick this up. It also doubles as a normal GPS receiver so it's ideal for me as my mobile has no GPS and I could use it for this.

It can log 1 (1Hz) point every second or offer 5 points a second (5Hz), when transmitting through Bluetooth. It can track up to 200,000 points (Or 55 hours worth of trails), and the battery lasts about 12 hours!

Looks pretty cool to me and quite useful!

That looks great!

I think it's too expensive for what it is though - Amazon have them for £74, and you can get something with a screen for that (or not much more). If it was under £40 then I'd prob be interested.

I still haven't figured exactly how all the little bits of singletrack in my local woods link together, so I had thought about taking my TomTom out in my rucksack and leaving markers whenever two trails meet! Anyone else done that already?

No? Ok, just me. getmecoat
