I'm a walker and Cycling Commuter not a Mountain Bike Adventurer but I thought this would come in just as handy for you MBAs as me the walker:

www.tracklogs.co.uk

Ordnance Survey mapping for your PC. The bargain is the 1:50,000 scale. You can have a 100km square map for thirty-five quid. They send you the CD next day. It will print customised maps and talk to your GPS. (Magellan or Garmin).

It's damn good. I'm a very satisfied customer.

The industry standard in the UK would appear to Memory Map. It's damn good too and can transfer OS maps to your PDA which Tracklogs can't. But Tracklogs pricing is significantly more attractive.

I hope this helps someone. Cheers.

...Which is great, of course, and has 1:25K mapping, but you can't do the same stuff with it. Sure you can print it - but it doesn't cooperate with your GPS - or let you annotate the map - or let you download routes from the 'net etc etc. If you only need a small map, mind, Multimap is free, which is good.

I use Fugawi and this excellent free site

There's so much excellent free stuff I con't think I'd pay for a repeat service (but I have just spent all my money on a bike).
