A charity race in Perthshire on closed roads has been stopped by protesters dropping hundreds of tacks. Apparently they didn't like the road closure, how low can you go?

Unfortunately this country is increasingly populated with adults who behave like children. "If I don't like it, no-one else is allowed to do it.". It's very sad. rolleyes

This thread should be in the P&P. That way you'd get a load of fking idiots supporting this behaviour.

I was thinking of resurrecting one of the anti-cycling threads and posting the link...

"Some campaigners are angry because they believe their freedom of movement is being restricted, visitors may be put off coming to the area, affecting tourism and business"

Well at least they got one thing right - i wouldn't want to go anywhere near a place filled with such petty and backward tts - no way i will be riding the etape again.

What if someone did this at monaco during GP week because of the road closures???

Yup, many of whom possibly travel to le mans every year to watch an event that takes place on closed roads.

A sad case of 'What goes around, comes around'. frown

We've had twelve years now of petty vindictiveness, spite, and banning from the government itself. And it is seeping into our national psyche.

Solution - UST wheels and tyres...

Squeeze a tube of sealant into the tyre and blat straight thru! Although being a knuckle-dragging MTBer Im not sure whether tubeless is doable on road wheels? Good idea certainly.

lol, maybe, maybe not, but the first corner after the tacks would certainly be a pileup waiting to happen!

all those tacks stuck into the skinny tyres, im sure no rubber would actually be in contact with the floor anymore!

You are right - when I was a kid, this was a country that WAS tolerant and really did believe in "live and let live". 3 hours of road closure would cause spiteful stupidity.

yes

Nail (or tack even) on the head.

There's a view that anything a group don't like - be it trackday noise, hunting, driving fast cars or smoking has to be banned. Taking the later as an example, as a lifelong non-smoker I really quite dislike people smoking around me, but I don't think it's my right to ban it outright any more than it is their's to ban any of my hobbies.

Really, why can't we all just get along? hippy

Where I used to live there are some of the most fabulous roads which are virtually undiscovered mainly due to the nature of them being single track they aren't ideal for hoons etc.

In the early to mid 80's the then Lombard rally tried to get permission to run some special stages through some of the roads, bearing in mind this is a tourist area with no business at that time of the year anyway you would have thought the locals would be overjoyed at the thought of Gruppe B rally cars (and the lesser cars) blasting down the farm tracks and the supporters spending money in the pubs and shops?

Nope overwhelming public opposition to a bit of noise for a few days. Miserable sods.

I was in this event yesterday. Frankly, sickening. Given the amount of effort and good will put in to it by so many willing volunteers as well as the efforts of the participants in training and raising funds it was just as well no -one caught the culprit. I punctured only once but at 35mph on the downhill from Schiehallion I was bloody lucky it was a rear not a front that went. bloody great carpet tack.

what with the 90 minute forced rest in Kinloch Rannoch and the scenes of chaos and riders every 100m with punctures from that point on it became a bit of a farce (through no fault of the organisers). f*ck em I say.....any muppet that thinks spreading tacks over a road where 3700 cyclists are coming through deserves their head kicked in.

Do they still make those hideous greentyres? They might finally be justified!

I hope that the locals who did this have many expensive trips to Quickfit.
