Flies and Bees and stuff...
Discussion
I have been out and about thoroughly enjoying my new bike over the past few weeks (Ridgeback Velocity - thanks Snotrag for the info!).
I am getting up to a decent pace now, sometimes pootling along at a steady 20-25mph and on the days when there is not a lot of wind, I find I am getting absolutely pummeled by all manner of flying insects!
On Friday I did 22 miles and I stopped midway, and was absolutely covered on my legs/arms and had been skelped in the face a few times.
On some stretches (country roads) I find I have to breath in through my nose and out through my mouth at an angle to reduce the risk of fly swallowage.
Are any of the rest of you suffering the same?
Last week I got hit in the cheek by a bee at around 30mph and it stung like a b
d!
Do any of you wear those masks favoured by city centre riders to help alleviate these problems?
Surely I can't be the only one getting assaulted.
Cheers,
Steven

Occupational hazard I'm afraid. Worth investing in some decent glasses obviously. I got back from my ride home a few days ago and ran my hand through my hair only to dislodge a somewhat dopey bee that had got stuck under my helmet. I counted myself lucky it didn't sting me. I have had a wasp hit my helmet and fall down inside my shirt where it stung me several times before I got rid of it
