More info on Peugeot bike
Discussion
Hi All, can anyone remind me of the bike website/forum where they discuss older bikes?
I have a Peugeot altitude 900, which is about 7-8 years old, has Ultegra everything and carbon forks, and I'm interested to know its value and history, as I bought it from a friend who didn't really know or care much about it. Peugeot bikes don't seem to be very common in the UK nowadays and not much can be found about this bike on the internet.
It also has an interesting provenance, as my friend says it was used in the Manchester Commonwealth Games in 2002 by the Australian women's cycling team, who bought all their bikes in Europe for the games and then sold them on afterwards to save transporting them. Sounds a bit far fetched to me but even so, I think it's still a lovely bike, and I got it for an absolute bargain.
BTW, this is not an ad!

sounds interesting. sadly retrobike is mostly full of bored accountants in their thirties who on some nostalgia trip will happily spend £100 on some 300lx shifters for their 1993 Kona Hahanna because "thats what it came with originally" and then proceed to post pictures of brand new looking bikes that havent seen a trail in years..... sorry but they need to get a life and get riding....any way, i digress....
i cant believe that australiaw ould not ship their own race bikes over, at the time australia were (and to be fair still are) a cycling tour de force and i am sure each rider would have had their own race bike with personalized set up. To buy a bike off the shelf for an event like that just doesnt seem to make sense....
Some of the track team were riding GT bikes http://www.rediff.com/sports/2002/jul/30pic3.jpg
but there were no medal winners for the womens road team so its hard to tell if it was a race bike as they are few pictures on the web and most are forward facing
they may have bought a few road bikes over in europe as training bikes rather than ship them but then why Peugeot when the games were in Manchester and other brands were easily available. is it in team colours (green and yellow) it may have belonged to Rochelle Gilmore, Margaret Hemsley, Anna Millward, Hayley Rutherford or, Elizabeth Tadich. http://www.abc.net.au/commonwealthgames/2002/natio...
I am sure an email and some pics to the Australian Cycling folks would uncover the truth!
i would keep searching but i have inadvertantly found a picture of rebecca romero so you have lost me for an hour or so.....

Hi,
There's a section on Bikeradar.com for collectable bikes, and I guess yours would fall into that category. I'd bet someone would come along and comment on the provenance as well - worth a shot anyway !
