I just had a quick peep at my rear tyre on my Spesh Sirrus and it's worn out to the core. In fact it's so bad I have the inner tube pushing it's way out of a hole where a screw pierced the wheel. rolleyes

So time for a new set of rubber.

Currently I run All Condition Spesh Armadillo 700x28c. They've given me absolutely no grief and they have plenty of traction on corners and in the wet.

For this reason, I plan to replace them with the same but I'm curious about running narrower tyres....

I've been pretty happy with 28c's, but wouldn't mind trying out something narrower so long as it won't give me any problems. I've got the option of 28, 25 or 23.

What's recommended and what difference will the narrower tyre make?

Ta!

Get 23C if you're a real man.

Will be much much faster than 28C.

Assuming you're on a 'rigid' hybrid then stick with a 28.

Narrower tyres need to run at higher pressures. Although this makes them faster the ride will be harsher.

I run 32's on my commuter.

I think 28's are about right for a city hybrid. I run 32c lightweight (300g) cyclocross tyres at 90psi on a Sirrus for road/light offroad use and they don't feel sluggish.

You could always try these 25c - very lightweight, good price, high pressure & they have puncture protection:
