recommend me a UK trail tyre
Discussion
I'm after a new set of tyres for my Yeti 575 and I'm not sure what to go for, my 'default' tyre choice is the Panaracer Fire XC 2.1 which being honest has never let me down in this country, only in the Alps did I need something a bit chunkier.
I will be riding mostly at various trail centres this year and my riding style is smooth and fast, I tend to ride around obstacles rather over them which is why I think the Fire XC suits me.

to be honest, not much beats the fire xc and being able to ride around obstacles rather than over them seems to denote two things. one you are a good rider able to pick lines through trails, two, you have confidence in the tyres ability to hold grip whilst constantly turning...
you could invest in a pair or conti race kings for the sumer if it styas dry but in reality, i think i would stick with the fire xcs.

Ive just bought some kenda small block 8s today and i love them. Ive only had the chance to use them in the dry them after it rained for 20 mins and i never lost grip once. I can imagine them to be a nightmare when its very wet as they are designed for the dry but deffo worth a look and very good rolling to.
It looks like i will be sticking with the XCs then!

Sometimes with it is best to stick with what you like, after all a crap pair of tyres can really spoil a ride and at least I know with the XCs what I'll be getting.
My only choice now is to decide what colour!

I used to run 2.1 xc pro kevlar's, but swapped them for some Conti mountain King protection 2.4's. Much prefer the conti's, and they blow up much skinnier than the '2.4' suggests. I would say they are the perfect UK trial tyre, but I am interested in runnning some nobby nics, as I have heard great things about them.
I also tried high roller's, but boy they are slow for xc!

I've always run Highrollers in 2.3 flavour, if you get the single ply ones they're pretty light. They're brilliant in anything but..... Deep mud, which you don't really get at trail centres and climbing on wet roots, the ramped knobs just spin up. Devestatingly effective on the sort of rocky fast descents you get at the TC's. I run them in 2.5, dual ply supertacky flavour on my DH bike too and they're great.
