I took delivery of my new Tarmac Elite yesterday (and a very lovely carbon sleek machine it is too) and now need to sell my old bike.

Dilemna is, do I keep the standard issue wheels (Specialized hubs with Mavic CPX-22 rims and Specialized Comp tyres) or swap them with what was on the road bike (Shimano 550 hubs and rims - 105, effectively, and Conti sport contact tyres). The tyres are neither here nor there but I can't work out online which is the better wheel. They are similarily priced but the Shimano have bladed spokes and a deeper dished rim, and seems to have a quieter freehub than the new bike.

Anyone have a particular view either way?

You'd probably be better off sticking with the wheels that came with the new bike especially if you have done a lot of miles on the old wheels. The old wheels will have lost some of their strength through spokes loosening off.

In terms of performance, if the two wheel sets are similarly priced then the chances are you won't notice the difference anyway unless you ride an awful lot and you're really fit.
