Specialised Globe Carmel 262

I know nothing about bikes really, except for the fact that I've owned a couple of 'Halfords' spec MTB when I was younger (including a Raleigh Hotfoot), and currently have an aging steel-framed Raleigh given to me for free.

I just want something I can chuck about the London streets on, for entertainment and health purposes. It wont be for commmuting, I work out close to the M25, and I've seen the praises of single speeders mentioned a few times.

Looking around, I find this 'urban' Specialised for under £300, which is my budget.

A good buy, or are there other recommendations?

the geometry is very upright meaning it will be difficult to get any sort of speed up and it wont be partciularly stable at speed, it will also be fairly heavy. something like the ginat escape 2 on the same page is more akin to what it sounds like you are after http://www.dalescycles.com/2009_Giant_Escape_R2_p/... i know its 375 and a bit over budget but you should be able to negotiate 10% off as a starter

That Globe Carmel is a bit of a shopping bike really, the Escape looks much more suitable.
