This morning I once again prodded the tyres on my commuter bike, checked the brakes etc. and marvelled at the fact my MTB would probably have had a puncture or something by now and yet the hybrid was doing fine. I'd also promised to lone the bike to a mate of mine for the L2B on Sunday so I possibly should have opted for discretion and taken the car instead this morning. But, no, I thought, I'll take the bike. What could go wrong?

Well, 2/3rds of the way to work it refused to shift down to the granny ring. I pulled onto the pavement for a quick look, turned the bike upside down, and at that point the chain fell off. I guess it's only a broken link, but it shows it's not invincible. Unfortunately I don't have a chain tool, so I'm now frantically running around trying to find a bike shop that'll attend to it before my mate misses his ride over the weekend. I think he owes me several beers now. smile

I had a similar tale today, riding along a trail thinking "Its odd, I've never had a puncture..." then I clipped a tree root and moments later the front was flat as a pancake... removed a large thorn from the tyre, but didn't have a repair kit handy "oh bugger" says I.

Luckily, me badgering my Dad into getting another specialized, meant he could pop over to me in my sisters smart, swap wheels and I kept going. Felt like a Tour de France rider with a smart support car lol
