Hope you all make it safely and have had fun doing it.

I should've been starting this morning at 7am, but my broken wrist said otherwise frown
Always next year.

I did it again this year, despite badly bruising my ribs whilst dicking around on a child's scooter yesterday afternoon. Don't ask.

Anyway we had an earlier time this year, scheduled for 7am but finally getting out at around 7:30am. I'm pleased to say that I managed a pb of 3h30m according to my computer. I was quite chuffed, and the new bike definitely helped.

I did find myself wondering if there would be any mileage in a Team PH L2B run next year? I know that this place tends to be quite MTB biased, but I reckon that we could put a sizeable team together and raise some good cash for charity. Thoughts chaps?

Knackered and in bed after today's efforts. Had a fun time. Awesome experience coming into Brighton with the crowds.

Any tips from the veterens? I used a Bianchi Road bike and i nonticed a lot of the uphill sections were being done better on a MTB with a 3 cog setup as opposed to a road bike with only 2. Is that right or am I blaming my bike?!!!

A Team PH would be good. Just needs someone to organise.

Well done to all!

Any MTB is going to be better geared for the hills. You've just got to grind your way up it in the knowledge that you'll drop them all on the way down!

for those that are interesed there is a MTB london to brighton in September... It is 78ish miles i think and claims to be 90% off road with a few techniqual sections and all money raised goes to the British Heart foundation, think you need to raise about £100 to enter

You need stronger legs! For a given amount of effort a road bike would be much faster than a MTB.

I didn't make it this year.

...But my bike did.

Someone owes me a beer when it's returned tonight!

Don't use the small granny ring for starters & get out the saddle on hills. The granny ring offers such little rewards for each pedal stroke, yes off road it can be essential, but on road I would only ever very occasionaly use it

Without wanting to sound big headed I try stay on the top ring and get out the saddle on every hill from the bottom to the top, it certainly gets you fitter and uses your whole body, I find bar ends a huge benefit, even though they have dropped out of fasion.

The L2B is a great ride, I wish I started earlier when I did it a few years back as I got lumped with all the plebs who jumped off and pushed at the slightest sign of a hill. The downhill at the end is suberb!

We had a 830 start and the first 10 miles or so was awful because of the stop/starts with congestion in the tight areas.

Thanks for the advice, fairly new to biking as the last one I had was a chopper back in the day!

I lost my nerve when I looked down at the speedo and it was registering 44mph.

I bottled it at about 39/41 mph! I saw the haystack on the bend and didn't really feel like going into that! This was my first L2B and that section made up for all the pain and sweat on the way up. Definitely do it again next year with a bit more training.

3hours 2mins (So close) riding time this year with a 6:30 start. Actually got away about 6:50. Topped 50.6 down Ditchling, but last year on my MTB I got 50.0 Thought I'd be speedier on the road bike.

Still I didn't fall off this year! Well done to everyone taking part, see you again next year.
