The flip side to the excitement of getting a new bike is that I really need to start securing it better. What are the best locks or methods for home security? I generally only do A to A journeys on the bike so only need to lock it up at home.

Thanks.

I was thinking something along the lines of motorcycle security for mine. Something along the lines of:

A U-lock

And

A ground anchor

If it is anything other than a knackered rusty POS then it WILL be stolen if you keep it outside.
All my bikes live inside my flat.

And if you need to lock it up when you go out then get a Kryptonite Fagheddaboudit.

It'll be in a locked garage so I hope it'll be ok. It just got me wondering that if they did get into the garage if there would be anything else I could do to ensure that the thing stays put.

Without getting into specifics on a public forum I'd suggest the following;

1. Use more than one lock and preferably different types - chain, u-lock, wire/cable.
2. Use ground and wall anchors. They need to be securely fixed as well as being sturdy (see 3.). A couple of wood screws and wrawl plugs isn't.
3. Security items should be 15mm thick or thicker (back plates on anchors can be 3-5mm thick steel). Any smaller and they can be snipped very easily and quickly.
4. Make sure the building is secure too.
5. Good household insurance (M&S always seem to be on of the best for bikers).

It's hard to say how much to spend Almax items are very expensive but nigh on industructable. Oxford do a large range of good items but have a cheap, small cable lock that a pair of pliers could snip through.

My thoughts are to make it as awkward as possible for the opportunist to get your bikes because the unfortunate truth of the matter is that if someone wants your bike then they'll find a way to get it.
