Well, a week after the seatpost snapped on my Trek, my Marin has decided to shuffle off this mortal coil.

Was on my way to work and heard a bit of a "tick" develop in the drivetrain. Didn't think much of it at first; just thought it was probably a loose chainring bolt or somesuch. Did stop after a while to check that no bolts were about to part company with the bike but didn't see anything amiss so carried on.

Couple of miles later and the tick's getting worse and in fact has developed into a chain rub on the front mech. Thought that was a bit odd, seeing as it's a super-stiff old school aluminium frame.

Looked down and could see the chainrings wobbling about as I was peddling. Hmmm. Perhaps the LH crank arm has worked it's way loose and the chainset is slipping out through the BB bit by bit?

Stopped to have a closer look again.

And found this:

Downtube / BB shell interface

Seattube / BB interface

Chainstay

yikes

Good news is that this '98 spec Marin Rocky Ridge has a lifetime frame warranty, so soon I should have an '09 spec Rocky Ridge frame winging it's way to me!

biggrin For about 5 minutes, maybe wink

To be fair, in Neil's words - this bike has been to the Moon & back. It's done nigh on 6,000 miles commuting in the last 2 or 3 years and was my only mountain bike for the 9 years prior to that, so it's seen a bit of action!

Seriously, no more pies for you....

Really seriously, sorry about your run of bad luck. These things happen in 3's. I await the next thread with glee!

ETA: If it helps, I'm laid up on the couch after pulling my neck muscles, so I've had to cancel my weekend camp/ride with my biking buddies...

Who ate all the pies? You did. You. Did.

Well, true to their word, ATB coughed up a new frame. Add in a few new bits and we're good to go!

Nicely played!

My Endruo is in with my local Spesh dealer for a warranty replacement... But they're only replacing the chainstay, it wont be the right colour and I have to pay for the labour to fit it. which is a double kick in the nuts because I could fit it easy myself if it wasn't for the injuries form the crash that broke it.

Bit of gaffer tape that would have been good as new.

Nice warranty claim though!
