I'm looking to put a new seat post on my road bike(Trek Madone 5.2). I'm in the process of upgrading/overhaulling my day to day bike and as part of the overhaul I'm nicking the original seatpost from my Trek(Bontrager x lite post) and putting it on the upgraded day to day bike. This leaves me with the fairly open ended question of which post to upgrade the Trek to.

It would seem reasonable to switch to a Bontrager xxx lite post, but I thought I would see if anyone had any opinion about alternative posts in the £80-100 bracket?

Any suggestions gratefully recieved.

Specialized Pave gets real good reviews, v. light, and very well made.

thanks, looks quite nice. I hadn't thought about specialized, but it looks like it is worth considering.

I have something very similar to this:

The locking system ensures that the saddle can never angle backwards. It hasn't moved so much as a mm in a year of riding.

Have to be Richey WCS finishing kit on a road bike wouldn't it?
Thomson all the way on an MTB though (with Richey bars though)

My vote is the Easton EA 70, or similar type, the two bolt design gives infinite adjustment when compared to the type of post that has ridges on the seat cradle, effectively limiting complete freedom of movement.

Hope this helps
