Decent kids bike (5 year old psycho tomboy!)
Discussion
Any suggestions for a decent branded 16" wheel mountain bike or BMX? Definitely NOT Pink like most of the girls bikes for 5 year olds are. She has a hand me down pink number at the moment and has quite quickly clicked with the whole biking thing so I thought maybe get her a decent one for her 5th birthday. Was thinking..... http://www.tritoncycles.co.uk/products.php?plid=m1... or similar.....anyone with any experience in this area?
Islabike Beinn small / large. We're hoping we can keep mini-mekon on his likeabike 'til he's big enough to skip the 16" wheeled one. Had a look at a few of them; they are proper bikes, not your usual gas pipe, bike shaped objects.

Ooh, but the SE looks mega. As someone who always wanted a PK Ripper, that would be hard to resist. Can that be topped? I guess only by going for full on kiddie race bikes.

Custom riders have a load of them if you are thinking of raising the next Shanaze Reade.

The SE is a nice bike, I ride it's big big brother.
My little one rides a 16" 2Hip bike and it's worth spending the little extra to get a 'proper bike' rather than a halfords special as they take the knocks so much better.
Bike choice depends a little on what terrain they are goin gto be riding, as we ride park and track I went for a robust 'street' bike but a mate who's lad only rides track has gone for a very nice Freeagent Micro 20" bike which is a lovely piece of kit but it wouldn't take the abuse of riding skate park.

2Hip make a kids bike?

...and a bit of a bargain at about £120ish about a year ago.

I second the Islabike option.
Just been to Islabikes today to pick up a Cnoc 16 for my little girl (who is 4). She only just fits it at present (seat at lowest position).
Have done some research, and Islabikes are second to none for kids IMO.
- 7005 alu frame (Cromoly fork)
- 15lbs total weight
- steering limited cartridge bearing headset
- very good quality V brakes front and rear, with lovely little short reach levers for little hands
- Designed in Britain (I expect their frames come from Taiwan like all the other big brands)
My daughter is chuffed to bits with it, despite the lack of basket/tassles etc.
Looked at the Specialized Hotrock, but the Islabikes seem worth the slightly higher price to me. Their balance bikes are ace too - my little 16 month old was desperate to get on and have a go.

The BMX'r in me won through and I've ordered one of these http://www.actionbikes-online.co.uk/products.php?p... although rather worryingly other than an instant confirmation email when I bought it on Weds night I've not heard anything from them......
Dead chuffed with the little CNOC16. My little girl is four, and already has a balance bike, so we decided to avoid stabilisers on the new bike. She is only just big enough to ride the CNOC16, but by the end of Sunday she was happily pedaling along. Not yet confident enough to go downhill at speed, or ride along the pavement.
I had a go too (feet out in front of me), just in time for a group of mountain bikers (off the Malverns) to go by shouting "You need a bigger bike mate!".
Hope you like it.
