Getting back into cycling, bought one pair of lycra padded shorts for road riding and found them to be ok but can anyone recommend a really good make of short to use.

willing to pay good money for extra comfort, what do people use? (rather have shorts rather than bibs).

Also, are there any good cycling forums to use?.

Thanks

Tend to use either Altura or Gore shorts myself (mainly because they come as liners for the baggies that I wear...)

I've had a pair of Endura MT500 lycra shorts for the last 7 years. One pair, and they've lasted better than anything else i've bought. I'd recommend them.

Money no object - Assos bibs are the way to go - yes, they are worth that silly price tag.

Good cycling forums - depends what you are looking for - weightweenies is good, if a little anal. Bikeradar is ok too.

Get bibs, not shorts. Shorts are rubbish. Bibs are ace.

For comfort I'd go for bibs. I've worn shorts for the last 6 years, switched to bibs this year and will never go back, so much more comfortable. Money no object, Assos make some amazingly comfortable shorts (or so I hear, they're £200+ yikes). If you want bargain, I'm very happy with my boggo dhb (wiggle) bibs (£35ish).

What website do people usually buy Assos gubbins from? Are CRC and Wiggle still the cheapest for this high end kit?

I got my Assos shorts from Stonehengecycles. I don't like bibs.

Just getting back in road riding again myself (goddamn Tour de France biggrin ) and have just bought a pair of these dhb bib shorts from Wiggle. They seem to get pretty good reviews wherever I look, but I've not had a chance to try them yet.

I have got two pairs of Endura MT500 bibs with the zip up the front. The material wears ok and they are comfy BUT both the zips fell apart without much use but outside of guarantee. They are also very hot as the bib is thick.

I am not a fan of Endura to be honest as I have seen a lot of it fall apart.

My next shorts will be Gore as all of my other gore kit is excellent.

Have been cycling for 15 years off road and recently got a road bike. Best advice I was given when I started road cycling was to get some Assos bib shorts - cost me about £110 in the sale (£170 ish full whack) and they really are worth every penny.

Now often wear them under my baggies when MTBing as they are so much comfier than anything else I have tried!

I have some DHB bibs for winter use and although they cost less than half the price, they really do feel crap in comparison.

Late entry - Castelli Cervelo bibs are great, and a good compromise at ~ £70. They're very well designed and made, and the padding is very thick where you sit on it and thinner where it only prevents chaffing.
