There's a couple of small villages near the base of the run. Also a picnic area type thing but depends on how safe the car is if left there...

There are 3 ascents, from Bedoin, Maulecene and Sault.

The best is from Bedoin, through the forest to Chalet Reynard and to the top. The descent over the other side into Maulecene is great.

Park in Maulecene and head south down the D19 to Bedoin to warm up, then do the loop anticlockwise.

Good effort!!

Always amazes me how low Ventoux actually is compared to the landscape..

Apologies if a dumb question but how steep is Ventoux. I know a few suffered with it during L'Etape, but I guess after 140k and in 42 degrees that isn't surprising. I really fancy a trip over to ride some of the cols, but it is difficult to know whether I am up to it in terms of fitness or what would have to be done to improve.

it varies, it's very steep on some parts other bits are not to bad, it just goes on for ever it seems,i did it one hit without any rest stops and it took just over 2 hours of solid climbing. it was tough but it was well worth it.
in terms of fitness, you ride at your own pace and if you need to stop for a rest stop, and then carry on.
there are plenty of other cols in the area that you could do first as a bit of training before you go for it, or just do a load of hill training before you head out there.

If you've got a good(ish) bike are relatively fit and a triple then you could probably do most climbs..... might not be pretty, might not be fast but who cares...........
