I am looking to buy a second hand frame and to then build up a full suspension bike for fairly light XC/Trail use.
Two bikes look possible at present, a 2006 Yeti ASR or a 2008 Orange 5.
Any thoughts as to which would be easier to build and best to use?

I loved my Yeti 575 when I had it (different bike, I know, but it was great for use in the alps) - only reason I got rid as I wanted a short travel FS, and a Superlight came up for the right money...

This will almost certainly turn into a "I own a yeti and it is the best bike in the world" thread.
So here goes....
I own a 2007 Orange 5 and it is the best bike in the world. It has also been trail bike of the year 4 times running.

If you are going to be no help at least do it properly!

I own a Yeti:

And an Orange.

I'd get both.
