Hi Guys
I'm, hoping that people can help out by keeping an eye out for my friend's bike which was stolen by some little scrotes last night on Barlow Moor Road in the Chorlton area of South Manchester.
The Bike is TOTALLY unique and should be very conspicuous if spotted, so hopefully it will appear soon enough.
It's a Whyte PRST-1 that has been Powder coated in brilliant white and has a Rollhoff 14 speed rear hub.
Everyone who see's the bike, comments on it due to it's unconventional appearance and as some of you may know, the PRST-1 is a fairly rare bike to begin with, before it was modified.
It cannot be converted back to a standard version as bosses and brackets have been removed and new ones welded in place, so it is now only capable of running with a hub gearing system.
It has Mavic rims and hope disc brakes.

If anyone local spots this bike, or anyone sees it being offered for sale anywhere, please could you get in touch with any information. My friend has offered a reward for info leading to the recovery of this bike.
Very much appreciated.
Cheers
Chris

I'm relatively local and will keep me eye out for it fella.

I really hope you get it back.

Parrotofdoom is also quite local and does more local riding than me, he may well spot the thread as he's in here quite a bit but it maybe an idea to email him this thread anyway, to keep his eyes out also.

I'd like to thank Bodhi808 for putting this up.

This was (is) my bike and lots of hours have gone into getting it just how I wanted it by making all the parts no-one makes. Im feeling very stupid about "just nipping into the shop" - and coming out to find it gone.

I know where it is - the Mersey Bank estate opposite Snow & Rock on the Princess Parkway as you leave Manchester heading towards the airport. Ive been putting up stolen posters today and handing them out to locals. The posters I put up have been ripped down so Im pretty sure its on that estate some where.

If anyone spots it please call me on 07870 170 661 - I shall deffinately make it worth your while.

As Bodhi808 say its a rather distinctive bike - its white at the mo - but could be sprayed to discuise it. Its got that Rohloff gear hub on it and they cant change that.

Thanks again guys. Shaggy

I cycle daily around Irlam, Flixton, Urmston, Sale, Altrincham, and often near Stretford. I'll keep my eyes peeled, if I see it I'll follow it home.

I've also notified a local mountain biking club. Its a unique bike so it won't be hard to spot, if its out on the road.

Make sure you inform all the local bike shops - give them a poster to stick up in their staff room (NOT on the shop floor!).

We have re-united a number of bikes with their rightful owners in this way, after said scrotes have brought them to get them fixed.

Thanks very much for posting on Manchester-Mountain-Bikers site.

The bike has been spotted today riding around the Merseybank Estate - south of Chorlton. I have a name of the kid who robbed it / has been seen riding around on it so hopefully the police will get it back soon - its going to be hard to ride this bike around without being spotted. I guess they'll be down on the Mersey Valley with it.

Here are some more pics of the bike:

Again - thanks for all your support guys.

I love this forum, eyes, ears and knowledge everywhere biggrin
Thanks for everyone's help and advice, it's really really appreciated. Good idea about the bike shops too, I think that might be well worth following up shaggy.
Great news that it's been seen today too, and getting the lad's name is a great win! These arrogant little $h!t$ simply have no respect for anything or anyone, so I sincerely hope the police manage to catch him and dole out more than the usual slap on the wrist!

Fingers crossed you get it back mate, especially with it being as customised as that: you can see you've got a bike exactly the way you want it and spent the time/money getting it that way.

All my bikes are custom too (to some degree) and all irreplaceable to me.

Some little sh*t needs a kick up the arse for this...

I hope it comes back too.

Its a really nice ride. Its made for cross country and it really excels at this - the front sus seems to maintain the wheelbase and so it attacks corners easily - without having to adjust the angle of steer. The rear gear hub is a delight to use - no messing with a derailleur after a ride - just clean and oil the chain and you're ready for the next ride. Plus you can change gear when stopped.

I'm getting more and more info on this but the police are really dragging their heels.

All you need is one more piece of weird sh*t then your bike (when you get it back) will be the ultimate weird (and maintenance-free) machine: a Scottoiler. Got them on my bikes including my hub-geared MTB - just requires a little bodging because I don't have a jockey wheel.

Just a quick update - the cops eventually picked up the lad who nicked it - only 5 days after I gave them his name and details to them - however the bike was no longer in his possession - so its gone - for now. Please - if you see this bike I’ve decided to offer a £1000 reward for its return . . . . . I hope it comes back - as for the cops - well I guess they're busy but I’m very frustrated that the didn’t react quicker.
