My company is not doing this or looking to in the next year. Are there any other options for getting a decent discount on a new bike?

This probably doesn't help much, but FWIW... They're not difficult to setup - I run my employers' scheme and so far I'm the only taker! Maybe you could enquire as to why they're not doing it, if there's just no one willing to spend 10 minutes setting it up, then maybe you could do so?

As Chris said, try to set it up yourself. I did for our company and it wasn't that difficult. You just have to make sure your company are happy to stump up the cash upfront.

However, if that's not possible, then as cycle shops that are tied into a scheme (I think this is how it works???) give 10% of the value of the bike to the scheme runner i.e. cycle2work.

It's something along these lines, but i'm sure someone will correct me...

So I asked for the 10% off and my bike shop agreed. Plus new 2010 bikes are starting to be released so there might be good deal on 2009 bikes...

I work for a rather large company that won’t do it until next year as they need someone dedicated to administering the process rolleyes

Really? That'd be a very easy job to have - once a week add another employee's details to the Cyclescheme website and spend the rest on PH. Actually reminds me a lot of my last engineering job.

Similar here, they do it once or twice a year to cut down on admin..

Can't be that difficult!

the problem we have is our force have limited it to £1000, me and my mates all want to upgrade to 1300-1800 quid bikes so the scehme is no good! apparently they need to pay for a higher credit licence if they want to go over 1000 quid and they wont do it!

Buy a bike for a grand. Flog it.

Use the cash to buy your own? Or would that not work?

not really, as the bike doesnt belong to me to sell until all the payments plus final payment are met. The same issue stops me buying a 1500 quid bike and paying 500 to the dealer up front then putting the balance of 1000 on the scheme, dealers seem reluctant to do it, even if its cash in a manilla envelope.

Yes- 10% discount is easy - that is what Cyclescheme charge the shops to cash in vouchers. If there is no voucher they can pass the saving on - to savvy customers in the know. Don't expect all shops to play ball - and especially from the multiples.

However, shop around. As admin for our cycle scheme (self admin so I still got discounts) we got about 25% of a GT full susp bike by going out of town. If you see a better price online ask the local shop to see how far they will go to price match. People won't work for nothing, but don't want to loose a sale.
