A friend at work just ordered the 2010 version of my bike (Trek 6300) (slight increase in spec, better rear dérailleur and slightly better fork, maybe £70 more to buy yourself) and it's £200 more! Just thought I'd share.

it was always going to happen, the jump from 08 to 09 was fairly hefty....

building your own bike has never been easier or cheaper these days with the likes of wiggle and CRC offering good deals on components, get the wheels from merlin, shop around for a reduced groupset... i doubt i will ever buy an off the peg bike again...

The frame is also significantly upgraded, which is teh most expensive part of the bike. But, most of the increase stems from the far weaker pound against the dollar than the situation a year agowhere it was trading much higher.....it is as simplae as that.

The prices are not crazy. Prices have been held artificially low for a number of years, now they are correct in line with the st economy and exhange rate we have.

Blame the yen, the chinese buying all the materials, the dollar/pound, all sorts, it wont change.

2nd hand is the future.

I bought a my Trek 6500 08 just over a year ago, and it was £600 (reduced from £700).

For some reason Trek have upgraded all their models to the next one up. Ie the 6300 is now the 6500. Therefore the price rise from the 09 6500 to the now equivalent 2010 6300 is only £75.

Or Alans. When I worked there the wheelbuilder made the best wheels I have ever seen. Mainly BMX wheels but I let him true and tension mine, still not had a problem with them. His BMX wheels are awesome.
