I'm thinking of selling my bike. Its not an off the shelf build and I wondered how would be best to go about selling it?

I've seen full custom built bikes for sale on eBay and even though they maybe worth a lot, not many people tend to bid as they only want select items to upgrade or would rather spec up a build themselves.

So with this in mind I'm thinking of getting my tools and dismantling the bike.

The things I think would sell;

  • Cove G Spot full suspension frame - Medium - Black.
  • Identiti Dr. Jekyll FR frame - Medium - Black.
  • Marzocchi Freeride SL forks - 130mm travel, QR, disc mount only - Silver.

A lot of the bits I don't think people would be interested in second hand;

  • XT/ XTR drive train
  • Mavic/ Shimano/ Hope wheels.
  • Headset.
  • Cranks/BB
  • Etc...

Am I on the right tracks? Any other places to list other than eBay?

Strip it and sell it, you will get more money..what xtr stuff you got..any 970 gear?
I used to have a custom '04 Jekyll a.d.s., dj1, combats, saint cranks etc..top spec..cost me £1700...had it about 4 months and had to sell it due to injury..most i got offered for full bike was £850 (fleaybay, various forums ..still in immaculate condition), stripped it down and got just under £1200.

Nothing brand new so I'm not expecting top dollar, but it's all in good mechanical condition.

I've photographed ready to sell;

Dr. Jekyll Frame ADS (ADS - what a load of flexing bks)

Cove G Spot

Z1 Freeride SL's.

DMR/ Blackspire single speed chain rings and an FSA bash guard - good as new.

Think I'll reuse the rest of an A-B bike venture.

The frame wasn't flexy as such, I seem to recall the adjustable drop outs not staying put and moving. I did sort this out in the end via some washers to stop the steel bolts digging into the alu frame.

My memories of the frame are still good ones though, I think I just had an annoying hic-up early on.

It's a hassle, but splitting and selling seperately will earn you more. I've just done this, sort of. I wanted the forks from a complete bike a mate was selling, but he wasn't willing to split so I took a chance and bought the whole bike for £700.

That was less than two weeks ago and already I've sold the frame, wheels, stem, bars, seatpost, front mech, and brakes - and made back £650. I'm using some of the remaining bits (e.thirteen chain device, forks, cassette, chain, chainrings) and still have the Saint cranks, DX SPDs, rear mech, tyres & tubes, and saddle left over. Not bad smile
